Arthur B. Skafidas
Art Skafidas began his legal career as a prosecutor for the State of Florida. For five years, Art served as a Senior Attorney for the Department of Professional Regulation, bringing disciplinary cases against doctors for poor medical care and fraud. During that time he represented the State in more than 300 disciplinary hearings, including some 100 matters that went before the Board of Medicine, and another 20 that went to trial. Art won more than 90 percent of his cases, an accomplishment that earned him a Meritorious Achievement Award for Outstanding Legal Advocacy in representing the public and State of Florida.Following his tenure with the State, Art relocated to Tampa and practiced at a leading medical malpractice defense firm where he gained valuable knowledge about the insurance industry and the local defense community.
From 1998-2008, he served as head of the medical malpractice division at Cohen, Jayson & Foster in Tampa, focusing on serious and complex medical malpractice cases. During that time, Art won more than $70 million in verdicts and settlements, including three wins that exceeded $10 million.He has been a guest lecturer in the areas of hospital liability and maximizing plaintiff’s damages.
